I have been trying in vain the last several days to turn up the Lawrence's Warbler I have had in the same area for the three years in Belchertown (with confirmed breeding last year). Although I didn't find a Lawrence's Warbler in the same spot I did find one today at Quabbin Park during my brief time there before I had to go to Northampton to get work done on my car. I initially heard it singing a typical Blue winged type song and it was way at the tops of the oaks. It seemed to be squabbling with a Blue winged Warbler in the area and eventually it worked down low and moved around a lot with a variety of songs. The most common song was an odd combo that sounded like two typical Blue winged songs back to back in one song. Always fun to track down this rather rare hybrid of Blue winged x Golden winged Warbler.
After dropping off my car I walked for a few hours through the Fitzgerald Lake Conservation Area and turned up a total of 19 warbler species there, which brought me to 23 species for the entire day...not record breaking but a nice day.
