Strong southerly winds bring in more migrants

With strong southerly winds overnight that continued into the day today I had high hopes that it would result in some great early season migration conditions and I was thankfully correct.  There were a number of arrivals around this morning as I covered a few areas relatively close to home including the rail trail on the Amherst/Belchertown line and a few spots around south Quabbin.  There were increased numbers of Palm, Pine and Yellow rumped Warblers as well as several Louisiana Waterthrush in multiple locations.  The new warblers for the year for me in Hampshire County included a couple Black and White Warblers as well as a Northern Waterthrush.  The Black and White Warblers missed breaking my earliest arrival date by a couple days (earliest ever for me is April 17) but the Northern Waterthrush tied for my earliest date (with previous records on the same date in 2012 and 2023).  Mary also had a Nashville Warbler for the day so certainly a great night of migration for the middle of April.
