Despite the weather being cold and breezy this morning and not having a lot of time I still managed to have my first morning with a double digit count of warbler species for the spring. Among the dozen species was the first Blue winged Warblers for me including one that sang an unusual song that consisted of between two and four parts and sounded a lot like a Golden winged Warbler. It was in the same area in Amherst I had one singing the same type of song last year and it almost certainly is the same individual returning for another year. In appearance it looked like a typical Blue winged Warbler but there may be some Golden winged Warbler genes in there somewhere. Always a good idea to track down any bird making a Blue winged Warbler like song as you never know what you will find.
