I ended the month of June the same way I started it and that was out looking and listening for warblers. It was a good month for warblers with lots of song still echoing through the woods and a good selection of breeding species around. Although song continues to drop off as breeding activity continues there are still lots of warblers to be found. I ended the month with 21 species of warblers in Hampshire County and a total of 30 species overall for the month (thanks to a short trip to Arizona). We now enter a somewhat slow month for warblers as there are not really any birds moving beyond post breeding dispersals and song drops off considerably. July will also be the last month of work for me as I finish out my career in fire and EMS at the end of the month.
