Slate throated Redstart, Bosque del Tolomuco, Costa Rica, Apr 3, 2014
It has been a very long since I have made any posts to this blog but I figured I might as well do one now.   Since my last post (way back in early January 2014) I have made five trips to Costa Rica, a trip to Ecuador as well as a few trips to Florida.  I have added several new warbler species to my life list during this time including Olive crowned Yellowthroat, Tropical Parula and Slate throated Redstart in Costa Rica and Black crested Warbler, Golden bellied Warbler, Russet crowned Warbler and Speckled Redstart in Ecuador bringing my total number of warbler species to 61.

Costa Rica warblers

Chestnut sided Warbler, Rio Magnolia Lodge, April 12, 2013
Golden winged Warbler, Rio Magnolia Lodge, April 12, 2013
A quick post about the warblers I recently found on a trip to Costa Rica. Although I didn't see any new species, I did find a total of 9 species including Golden winged, Mourning, Tennessee, Yellow, Chestnut sided, Buff rumped Warblers as well as American Redstart, Northern Waterthrush and Common Yellowthroat.  As typical on other trips down there the most abundant species of warbler were Tennessee and Chestnut sided Warblers.  Two of the species were new to my Costa Rica list: Mourning Warbler and Common Yellowthroat.  My current total warbler species for Costa Rica is 18.

Costa Rica warblers

Tennessee Warbler, Los Cusingos, Costa Rica, Dec 19, 2012
Chestnut sided Warbler, Rio Magnolia Lodge, Dec 24, 2012
It has been a long time since I have posted anything here but now that I'm recently back from Costa Rica I have something warbler related to post about.  I was there from Dec 15-Dec 26 and I managed to find a number of warblers including a few new ones for me.  I had a total of 14 species of warbler with four of them new to my list including Golden-crowned Warbler, Black-cheeked Warbler, Flame-throated Warbler and Collared Redstart.  I added three other warbler species (Prothonotary and Black throated Green Warbler and American Redstart) to my Costa Rica warbler life list, which now stands at 16.  My total life list for warblers now stands at 52.  Who knows what #53 will be and where I will find it?
