After failing to relocate a Yellow rumped Warbler I initially had along the Connecticut River in Hadley on February 1st on multiple attempts I changed my tactics a bit today. After getting out of work I decided to try a few areas on the Northampton side of the river with my first stop being to Arcadia where I had at least one fairly cooperative Yellow rumped Warbler that I got some photos of. I stayed around the area for a bit chasing down other birds before I left to head toward home. Quite satisfied to finally get a photo of Yellow rumped Warbler for the month.
After my time with the Yellow rumped Warbler I headed to Winsor Dam to try my luck in finding the Pine Warblers there and thereby making the day a two warbler species day. They have been fairly regular lately as covered in the following post when at least seven individuals were present. I arrived and started walking around and noticed a group of Eastern Bluebirds flying from the dam back toward the admin building with at least two Pine Warblers with them. I then spent quite a bit of time trying to track down the warblers and ended up with at least three individuals seen at the edge of the publicly accessible areas. I got a few distant photos but the birds continued to move further away so no close ups today. I don't get to see two species of warblers on the same day in February around here too often so I was quite happy.
