After having a flyover calling Yellow rumped Warbler along the river in Hadley yesterday that extended my unbroken streak of finding at least one species of warbler in Hampshire County to 82 months I had to decide where to head this morning. I wanted to try to get a photo of the Yellow rumped Warbler so I thought of a return to Hadley but I also wanted to try to find a Pine Warbler at Winsor Dam where they have been seen on and off all winter. I tried for hours yesterday to track down a Pine Warbler there without any luck although one was reported by others when I was not there. I decided on a different strategy from the day before where I started in Hadley and then stopped at the dam later in the morning. Today I began my morning at Quabbin. Once it got light I noticed a few Eastern Bluebirds around the admin building and I know many times in the last several weeks I have found a Pine Warbler travelling with the bluebirds. After lots of scanning through the hordes of Dark eyed Juncos I found a Pine Warbler with a bit of yellow on it and then found a very gray individual. I got some photos of both in the early light of the day. The Pine Warblers extended another streak for me, at least two species of warbler in the county for every month to 23 consecutive months! With the Pine Warblers found fairly early I decided to make the drive over to Hadley again where I failed to either hear or see the Yellow rumped Warbler I had the day before. After running a few errands I made my way back to Winsor Dam and once again had the two Pine Warblers working the area around the admin building. A really great start to the month of February in my book.
