September has now come to an end and with it the peak of fall warbler migration.  Overall the warbler migration was a bit lackluster compared to typical years with several species being represented by just one or a few individuals (I finished the month with 27 warbler species which is average). The exception to the low numbers were Tennessee Warblers that showed in good numbers throughout the month.  Yellow Warblers continued in above typical numbers for the end of the month as did a few other species.  Connecticut Warblers were in the lowest numbers I have seen in several years and I had just two confirmed and a couple other suspected (and no photos at all of them so far). This was not for lack of trying on my part as I spent many mornings in mid to late month specifically looking for this species. Not many others were turned up in the area either so I suspect many passed us by as they took advantage of great migration conditions on many nights.  Although the last few months of the year will feature less and less warblers the chances of a rare warbler showing up increases so certainly worth keeping an eye and ear out.

Black throated Green Warbler, Home, Belchertown, MA, Sep 28, 2020

The new water feature produced another warbler on the 28th with the capture of a Black throated Green Warbler.  Oddly I never managed to capture a Black throated Green Warbler at my old water feature so this certainly bodes well for the new water feature.
