I was finally able to get out for a few hours today after multiple days of other commitments or icy weather.  As the year is rapidly coming to a close I decided to try a few areas to see if I could find any lingering Yellow rumped Warblers that might hang out into the new year.  It was a cool and cloudy morning with a slight breeze but not too bad.  My first stop was a spot in the East Meadows that has held overwintering Yellow rumped Warblers for a few years and I have had at least one individual there somewhat recently but it was not cooperative and was heard as it flew over.  This morning I had no luck finding any warblers in the East Meadows.  I then headed across the river to try my luck at Mitch's Way  I walked quite a bit around the area before finally coming across at least three Yellow rumped Warblers feeding on poison ivy berries.  I'm hopeful they will stick around at least through the beginning of the new year and with any luck they will hang around through the entire winter.
