A slow trickle of arrivals gives me my first 20 species day of the spring

Yellow Warbler, Mitch's Way, Hadley, MA, May 7, 2023

I had my first 20 warbler species day today as I explored a few areas in Hadley and Amherst on another sunny day.  It was another cool start with lows around 40 but it warmed quickly.  Although the migration conditions overnight were not great there were certainly some new arrivals and I added five new warbler species for the year in the county with Worm eating Warbler, Black throated Blue Warbler, Cerulean Warbler, Magnolia Warbler and Prairie Warbler.  Always a treat to catch up with Worm eating and Cerulean Warblers at the northern part of their breeding range on top of Skinner SP.  Diversity is certainly increasing with overall numbers still low for the date.
